Dr. Andrew McKeown
Dr. Andrew McKeown completed medical training at the University of New South Wales, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Medical Studies and Doctor of Medicine. He undertook his post-graduate training in Port Macquarie and the Hunter-New England region.
His specialist training in anaesthesia was completed in Port Macquarie, Sydney, Orange and Newcastle. During his specialist training, he completed a Master of Medicine (Critical Care) through the University of Sydney. He gained further specialist experience in regional anaesthesia and simulation education teaching during fellowship at John Hunter Hospital. He remains passionate about utilisation of local anaesthetic nerve blocks to provide effective post-operative pain relief. Andrew is active in the education and preparation of anaesthetic trainees undertaking specialist college examinations.
Dr. McKeown is now based in Newcastle, working at John Hunter and Calvary Mater Hospitals, as well as local private hospitals, with particular interest in intraabdominal, orthopaedic, breast and thoracic surgery.
When he’s not at work, Andrew enjoys woodworking, fishing and spending time with his new son Nicholas.
