Dr. Louise Hails

Dr. Louise Hails is a specialist Anaesthetist who studied Medicine at the University of Newcastle, graduating with Honours. She undertook her Medical Residency in the Hunter New England Health District and proceeded to specialist training in Anaesthesia within the same health district, primarily at John Hunter Hospital.

Following completion of her Anaesthesia training, Dr. Hails undertook Fellowship year of training in Neuroanaesthesia and routinely provides anaesthesia for Neurosurgeons and Interventional Neuroradiologists for elective and emergency cases. Dr. Hails has an interest in acute post-surgical pain, has completed a Masters in Medicine in Pain Management at the University of Sydney and currently is the co-director of the Acute Pain Service at John Hunter Hospital.

In addition to Dr. Hails’ private practice, she is also a Staff Specialist Anaesthetist at John Hunter Hospital. Dr. Hails’ clinical practice includes all areas of anaesthesia, maintaining her skills in major general surgery, orthopaedics, ophthalmic surgery and obstetrics & gynaecology and has a particular focus on cardiology electrophysiology studies, neurosurgery, maxillofacial and ENT surgery.

Dr. Hails is involved in anaesthesia training at John Hunter Hospital assisting Anaesthetic Registrars in their preparation for the Fellowship examinations and is the Neuroanaesthesia Training Supervisor. She developed a Neuroanaesthesia Crisis Simulation course, held at the Hunter New England Simulation Centre, which is available to Anaesthetists, Anaesthetic Registrars and Nurses to aid in skill and knowledge.

Dr. Hails is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and complies with all college requirements for continuing professional development.
