Dr. Simon Ellis

Dr. Simon Ellis is a specialist anaesthetist based in Newcastle. He grew up on the north coast of NSW and maintains a strong desire for health equity for regional people. Simon completed his medical degree at the Universities of New England and Newcastle. Simon received a six-month scholarship to study at the Karolinska Institutet, one of the world’s foremost medical universities. Simon completed his specialist training in Newcastle, Maitland, and Lismore Hospitals, part of which was as an anaesthetic research position. 

Academically, Simon has completed a Masters of Traumatology with Distinction, a Diploma of Prehospital and Retrieval Medicine, and has presented research at international conferences including the Australian Resuscitation Council’s Spark Of Life, and the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists Annual Scientific Meeting. 

Dr. Ellis is accredited with World Rugby, and has been the Immediate Care Physician for international rugby matches including the Wallabies and Wallaroos.

Simon is interested in anaesthesia for all types of surgery, particularly regional anaesthesia, orthopaedics, general surgery, ENT and maxillofacial surgery, sedation, and ophthalmology.

Outside of medicine, Simon enjoys spending time with his wife and two beautiful children, his golden retriever (Barney), golf, scuba diving, and all forms of caffeination.
